Brighton manager Graham Potter a Premier League home triumph as Burnley got a 1-1 draw in the Amex Stadium was denied by jeff Hendrick’s stoppage-time strike.
Neal Maupay appeared to have secured all three points for the Seagulls after he volleyed the hosts in front (51) on his 100th appearance in British football.
But the thunderous attack in the very first minute of injury time of Hendrick procured an unlikely point to refuse Brighton a first home league success.
While Burnley stay 12th with both teams locked on five things and without a win in five games the effect leaves Potter’s aspect in 14th place after an eighth home league match with no win.
Burnley, who procured back-to-back wins over their opponents this past year, made the brighter start and were unfortunate to not take the lead on 15 minutes after Shane Duffy’s scuffed clearance from Dwight McNeil’s cross deflected off Adam Webster and looped only on his own crossbar.
The visitors came close once again before his shot missed the Ashley Barnes at the far post as Jack Cork chested James Tarkowski’s header down by a McNeil set piece.
But the hosts created opportunities of their own and grew into the competition. Prior to the England goalkeeper failed to keep out Glenn Murray shot following a Pascal Gross pass on the stroke of half-time solly March tested Nick Pope at his post.
Potter advised his players to continue in the exact identical vein after the restart as inside half an hour, the hosts were. Matt Lowton had gone close to slicing the ball into his own net after being discharged down the left Gross when Maupay analyzed Pope in his near post.
Burnley’s reprieve was short-lived as the attack, the cross from the left of March was acrobatically after he’d obtained a yard of space around Tarkowski hooked from Maupay beyond Pope.
Davy Propper came close to the home side’s lead when his header from Murray’s crossover flashed within the bar, until Chris Wood was unable to lead Ashley Westwood’s wayward volley on goal at an infrequent sight of Brighton’s goal for the visitors.
It appeared like the hosts had done enough to secure a first home win since beating Huddersfield 1-0 on March 2, but changed since the match.
Hendrick had played only four minutes of Premier League football this period before his second-half introduction but in his flight look that was very best , he showed no signs of rust as he bumped onto the lay-off to blast Burnley degree of Matej Vydra.
Graham Potter:”We would’ve liked the 3 things and besides the initial 25 minutes when Burnley were the better team, we changed things around and from there I believed we were the most likely team to win. They scored in their only shot on target and that happens.
“We place a lot into the sport, and we are disappointed to come away with a point but in terms of the functionality it was very promising. We had to score the next goal, and there is always quality. That’s the fact of it.
“Burnley are always in the match with the usage of their centre forwards and how they defend so deep, it’s not easy to create chances but I thought we did that. But it is a sore one to concede so late.”
Sean Dyche:”It was a good end to a tough performance. We had been the better side and had been good. We created opportunities, and we asked sufficient questions but we weren’t clinical. They then changed to last season to a more familiar format, along with the game levelled out into half-time.
“From the second half, we didn’t get moving at all and they had been the better side. They moved in front but yet again the belief in our group was on display. The adjustments we made influenced the game.
“I don’t need to be overly critical on the players to the next half since it was the very first dip we’ve had in operation this season, so we come off with a good stage in the feeling that we weren’t at our best.”
Gross had been left from Potter’s beginning but as the primary creative spark of Brighton , the German assumed responsibilities once again in Leandro Trossard’s lack.
Gross made a stand-out performance filled with guile and energy. It was his pass which nearly led to Glen Murray’s opener just before the break and substitute Aaron Connolly had the opportunity to seal the points on from the Ingolstadt midfielder from a different piece of play.
Brighton traveling to face Newcastle next Saturday, live on Sky Sports Premier League (kick-off: 5.30pm). Burnley sponsor Norwich on the identical afternoon (kick-off: 3pm).
