The organiser of this International Champions Cup has started a legal case against US soccer authorities – matches being played in the USA.
Relevent Sports attempted to organize a La Liga game between Girona and Barcelona in January however, the plan was scrapped at the face of resistance.
It then attempted to sponsor an Ecuadorian league match in america on 5 May, but also was blocked from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), although Relevent said it had secured a stadium for its fixture and had received written approval from the Ecuador’s league and its national association, plus the regional regulatory body.
In court papers lodged in New York,” Relevent argues the USSF is currently behaving in an anti-competitive method.
It states the USSF allows the Mexican Super Cup and the Campeon de Campeones to be performed in California.
These games are organised with a rival match promoter, Soccer United Marketing (SUM). The Major League Soccer clubs own collectively SUM also has exclusive rights to advertise the men’s and women’s global teams of the USA – its connection with all the USSF is the subject of legal scenarios.
No date has been set to be heard.
Relevent says world governing body Fifa position that no league matches must be performed in different nations is an opinion, not a regulation.
Relevant is determined its goal is only to host every season to three or two La Liga games at the US, although the organisation’s charismatic executive chairman Charlie Stillitano has said he’d relish the opportunity to market Premier League games.
In addition, it has noted that leading US sports Major League Baseball and the NFL , have played regular season games in England over the last 12 months to audiences.
The Premier League has said it has no plans. An international round – the 39th sport – was proposed in 2008 but 2 years after stated the Premier League said it was being contemplated.
The USSF failed to comment on Relevant’s current action but called a statement issued when a former law suit was obtained in April.
Inside, it said:”When Relevent asked to host a competitive match game in Miami between two Ecuadorean clubs, their application went through our review process for international match approval, which we conduct on the over a hundred applications we receive each year from dozens of promoters.
“As part of this review procedure, we reached out to the Ecuadorean Soccer Federation and [South American Football Confederation] Conmebol to validate whether they were conscious that the proposal included a competitive league game. As of today, we have yet to be given a response to this query.
“At precisely the identical time, we reached out to Fifa and verified the Fifa Council’s October 2018 affirmation stating’the sporting principle that official league matches must be performed over the land of the respective member association’.”
Luis Manfredi, the chief executive director of the league that was overburdened, was used to utilize the Spanish team and it’s suggested by some that current La Liga president Javier Tebas, regarded as the driving force behind the plan to host a Spanish league match in the united states, is using relations inside the club to test the recent regulations.
