Why Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah have all trained in Dubai
(CNN) — Following the disappointment of Egypt’s early removal from the Africa Cup of Nations this summer, Mohamed Salah took a break in Dubai to recuperate.
The reigning African footballer of the year sampled gourmet cuisine in five-star restaurants, relaxed beaches, also maintained himself in shape with some light training in the Nad al Sheba (NAS) sports complex.
This was not the first trip to the complex, nor even his earliest this season of Salah. His team that was Liverpool booked to get a coaching camp as did Premier League rivals Manchester United – .
Arsenal were guests in March, including their names to an list that includes Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, along with AC Milan. Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo dropped over his winter holidays.
The appeal isn’t restricted to footballers.
World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic introduced for a selfie with Dubai’s Crown Prince at NAS at 2016.
From the Australian cricket team to UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, the cream of international sporting royalty are currently flocking to the site.
But why?
‘pretending to be the best’
The NAS complex, located close by the world horse racecoursethat was created to become one of the world’s best.
“We aim to be recognized as an outstanding destination,” states NAS director of game Robert Wadsworth.
Feedback from celebrity clients – he chooses to not name names – indicates the service is”comparable and in some instances significantly better than the facilities they’re utilized to.”
Some clients have been happy to offer shining reviews, such as Djokovic, who also wrote a thank you note on Instagram”for allowing me to train in the finest sports center in the world.”

The website comprises a wide selection of outdoor and indoor capabilities. There are just two FIFA-standard soccer pitches as well as an athletics track, as well as indoor arenas including badminton, volleyball, futsal (similar to five-a-side football) and martial arts.
The complex also includes centers for simulating different altitudes, cryotherapy chambers that help recovery after exercise, swimming and hydrotherapy tools, as well as a sports science lab and medical support groups.
“The Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex is a growing project, rising by the week, month and year,” says Nasser Aman Al Rahma, assistant secretary general of Dubai Sports Council (DSC).
Tailored usage
Customers find applications for the complicated.
“At the main it is for coaching camps both pre-season or mid-season, and injury rehab and recovery,” says Wadsworth.
“We’ve got a range of football teams from the European leagues that will train with us from January to March when (many) leagues have winter breaks. We sponsor teams from Asia from November to February if they are doing pre-season work”
The site hosts athletes and teams as they prepare for tournaments, Wadsworth adds. “Cricket Australia finished their pre-tour testing in NAS before flying into the UK for the World Cup and The Ashes.”
Beyond the purpose, Wadsworth considers privacy is a region of the appeal for visitors. NAS is a private facility which takes pride in safeguarding against flames from public or the media.
That Dubai is accustomed to catering to the rich and famous also allows a level of anonymity for clients in their downtime, that will enjoy a quiet dinner or see local landmarks without being swarmed by sport lovers.
Commercial Price
The presence of star athletes in the NAS complex may bring benefits for both visitors and hosts.
“Several countries in the Gulf region are using hot weather training camps as part of the sports development plans,” states Professor Simon Chadwick, a sports business specialist in the University of Salford, in the UK.
“They have positioned themselves as health and training destinations with the intention of drawing athletes and teams, raising awareness of the facilities and, consequently, forcing long-term company.”
For fostering tourism and awareness A 2015 Deloitte report also noted the benefits.
“The usage of Dubai as a location for warm weather training in the wintertime is proving ever more popular for football teams,” the report says. “If promoted properly Dubai could in time be the’go-to’ venue for a significant number of nightclubs, with resulting opportunities for instruction (and) exhibition matches.”
“Mass participation events also have significant potential in attracting extra sports tourists”

Chadwick thinks there are advantages for seeing with sportspeople past their physical fitness .
“By training at the Gulf athletes and groups can boost their profiles throughout the area, build buff engagement, and establish possibly profitable relationships with company partners,” he says.
The presence of factors in trips to Dubai was emphasized by people like Bernd Wehmeyer, director.
Wider ambitions
Relationships with global sports stars’ evolution is taking place to develop sporting infrastructure and involvement .
The 17,000-seat Coca-Cola Arena which will host soccer, basketball and hockey was lately opened by the Emirate. Dubai also upgraded facilities like the Al Maktoum Stadium for its 2019 Cup, held in the UAE.
“There are quite a few other sports projects under debate,” says Aman Al Rahma, record plans for new bicycle paths and golf courses in town.

The DSC is aiming to increase involvement across all demographics, says Aman Al Rahma,” with the goal of making Dubai”one of the very physically active areas on Earth.”
“That is the reason why, when you have a take a look at Dubai’s annual sports calendar, you’ll discover lots of neighborhood sports events together with the star-studded elite athletic extravaganzas,” he says.
Having secured an influx of talent, Dubai is currently seeking to cultivate its own.
