Odin Baileys first goal gained Birmingham a win over Middlesbrough at St Andrews on Friday night to end a three-match losing streak.
Rampant facing goal in the first whistle, the Blues took the lead after Fran Villalba sailed home his first goal for the club (33), however they could have been from sight by the break were itnt for the inspired performance of Boro goalkeeper Darren Randolph.
A pulsating encounter during, there was great drama in the final three minutes as Dani Ayala bundled Britt Assombalongas cross home at the far post (87).
However, their lead was restored by the guys of Pep Clotet within 120 seconds when 19-year-old Bailey headed Dan Crowleys deep cross over the line to leave the struggling visitors searching for their first away win of the year.
Given their current run of defeats, it was natural to the Blues to come out all guns and within a few minutes, Villalba had compelled Randolph after fulfilling Maxime Colins cross.
It had been the first of a string of saves including two where he needed to tip over goal-bound clearances out of his own team-mates: Ryan Shotton and Dael Fry.
Full-back Colin was lively on the right flank and also provided the help for the opening goal, finding the Villalba that is lively that the ex-Valencia midfielder powerfully swept into the right corner.
The pressure continued to build and Randolph was left red-faced about the stroke of half-time if he went close to falling Harlee Deans second header, together with Kristian Pedersen heading onto the underside of the bar after.
When Paddy McNairs cross was palmed apparent of their six-yard box woodgates guys did improve following the break and called Lee Camp to play, however it was in similar situation.
Britt Assombalonga, that dinked a cross into the far pole, allowing Ayala render the hosts to rue missed chances, to bundle home and, apparently caught in possession defender Harlee Dean.
But Bailey – who was at the club – reacted fastest to the cross past Randolph of nod Crowley at the far post to secure the success for Birmingham.
Birmingham boss Pep Clotet:Now I believe we managed to join a performance with an effect in the manner that we want to. Our performances have been very good lately, as I said before the match and now is another good performance.
It is very important for us to place that performance that we needed in away games – although we werent getting the outcomes – in front of our fans. I think our fans helped us through the game since we struggled in certain periods and have been immense. I am so happy because it all was united.
Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate:We didnt play well whatsoever. They appeared to be winningat couple at half-time, but Randolph was exceptional. We got back to the match – that is the Championship for you, although do not ask me how we put back into it .
Im frustrated that we conceded that last goal, really frustrated. Listen, we have a rest and then we proceed to another game
This seasons second rest means theres not any Sky Bet Championship action every week, with teams in action. Both sides are in action on the Saturday: Birmingham travel to Elland Road together with Middlesbrough.
