Katie Taylor bids to become two-weight world champion in Manchester live on Sky Sports
Katie Taylor can become a world winner when she challenges Christina Linardatou to the WBO belt live on Sky Sports.
The Irish superstar has been crowned as the undisputed lightweight winner after a hard-fought win over Delfine Persoon at June and currently targets a domain in a higher weight category at Manchester Arena, with Anthony Crolla’s farewell fight and Joshua Buatsi’s WBA light-heavyweight title eliminator against Blake Caparello.
Taylor plans to cement her status as the world’s greatest female fighter in the near future and fully is currently relishing her WBO title clash in the major event.
“I had some of my early pro fights at the Manchester Arena and also to return in November and headline a card there a couple years on is amazing,” explained Taylor.
“It is played host to some massive nights at boxing history so I’m honoured to be part of that tradition.
“it is a new challenge in a brand new weight and something I’m really enthusiastic about. I feel as though I have much left to achieve in the sport and getting a two-weight world champion is among these goals.
“There are still so many huge fights out there for me such as the Amanda Serrano fight, a rematch with Delfine Persoon along with a fight with Cecilia Br??khus however, the first aim is November 2 and winning yet another world title.
“I don’t have any issues making lightweight so that I believe I could move between the 2 weights. I always want to drive myself and Christina is a great world champion, so it will be a major test for me personally.”
But Linardatou, with 12 wins and 1 reduction, believes she could inflict a crushing first defeat on Taylor.
“I intend on leaving England with my name,” she explained. “If I want to knock on Katie Taylor outside as a way to keep the title, that’s what I will do.”
Mancunian Crolla returns to the scene of his victory, a stoppage win Darleys Perez to make the WBA lightweight belt at November 2015, and the 32-year-old will have one struggle before this season after falling short against merged winner Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Buatsi stopped Ryan Ford in seven rounds but if receive a sterner struggle against Australian Caparello, a former world title challenger, who’s shared the ring with Sergey Kovalev and Andre Dirrell.
Felix Cash also defends his Commonwealth middleweight title and Gamal Yafai will take another step towards a significant name in the division.
“I’m so happy to be back in Manchester for this massive series,” said Matchroom Boxing manager Eddie Hearn.
“Katie Taylor has become established as one of the greatest stars in world boxing and she wants to make more history by turning into a multi-weight world winner by hard WBO super-lightweight winner Christina Linardatou.
“Hometown hero Anthony Crolla rolls the dice one more time that he takes part in his final fight in the game in the stadium that has functioned many epic Anthony Crolla nights.
“The stabilisers are off for Joshua Buatsi as he takes a huge step up against demanding Australian Blake Caparello at a WBA world title eliminator and there is a brilliant domestic middleweight battle between Commonwealth champ Felix Cash along with English champ Jack Cullen.
“There is a lot more beneath these four conflicts on what will be a massive night of boxing”
Adam Smith, Head of Sky Sports Boxing, said:”We’re absolutely delighted to be showing the very greatest female fighter in the world back to Sky Sports with this enormous show. This is just yet another major evaluation for Katie Taylor because the lightweight winner continues to cement her extraordinary legacy and takes on all comers.
“Katie is a marvellous ambassador and inspiration for many and we’re thrilled to be working so closely with her as we look to feature both the best in boxing and in women’s game on Sky.”
