Why Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah have all trained in Dubai
(CNN) — After the collapse of Egypt’s early elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations this summer, Mohamed Salah chose a break in Dubai to recover.
The reigning African footballer of the year sampled gourmet cuisine in five-star restaurants, relaxed on beaches, also maintained himself in shape with a few light training in the Nad al Sheba (NAS) sports complex.
This wasn’t Salah trip to the complex, nor his first this season. His team booked to get a training camp in January, as did Premier League rivals Manchester United – who visited the preceding calendar year.
Arsenal were guests in March, including their names to an illustrious list that contains Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, along with AC Milan. Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo dropped in over his winter vacations.
The appeal is not confined to footballers.
World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic introduced at NAS in 2016 for a selfie together with the Crown Prince of Dubai.
In the Australian cricket team to UFC winner Khabib Nurmagomedovthe cream of global sporting royalty are flocking to the website.
But why?
‘Aiming to be the best’
The NAS complicated, situated close by the world horse racecourse, was designed with the aspiration to become one of the world’s greatest.
“We aim to be recognised as an elite destination,” says NAS director of sport Robert Wadsworth.
Feedback from celebrity clients – he prefers not to name names – suggests the ceremony is”similar and in some cases better than the facilities they are used to.”
Some clients have been pleased to volunteer shining reviews, such as Djokovic, who wrote a thank you notice on Instagram”for allowing me to train at the top sports center in the world.”

The site comprises a broad selection of indoor and outdoor features. There are two FIFA-standard football pitches and a sports track, in addition to indoor arenas including badminton, volleyball, futsal (similar to five-a-side soccer ) and martial arts.
The complex also includes centers for simulating different altitudes, cryotherapy chambers which aid recovery after exercise, swimming and hydrotherapy resources, as well as a sports science lab and medical support teams.
“The Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex is an evolving project, growing by the week, month and year,” says Nasser Aman Al Rahma, assistant secretary general of Dubai Sports Council (DSC).
Tailored usage
Customers find various uses for the complex.
“In the main it’s for coaching camps both pre-season or mid-season, and trauma rehabilitation and recovery,” says Wadsworth.
“We have a lot of football teams from the European leagues that will train with us from January to March once (many) leagues have winter breaks. We host teams from Asia from November to February if they’re doing pre-season work.”
The site hosts athletes and teams as they prepare for tournaments that are particular, Wadsworth adds. “Cricket Australia finished their pre-tour testing NAS before flying to the UK for the World Cup and The Ashes.”
Past the function, Wadsworth believes privacy is a major part of the allure for visitors. NAS is a private facility that takes pride in safeguarding from the media or public against interruptions.
This Dubai is accustomed to catering to the rich and famous also allows a level of anonymity for customers on their downtime, that will appreciate a quiet dinner or visit local landmarks without being swarmed by sport fans.
Commercial Price
The presence of star athletes in the NAS complex may bring advantages for both visitors and hosts.
“Many countries in the Gulf region are utilizing hot weather training camps as part of the sport development strategies,” states Professor Simon Chadwick, a sports business specialist in the University of Salford, in the united kingdom.
“They’ve positioned themselves as training and health destinations with the aim of drawing in athletes and teams, raising awareness of their facilities and, consequently, forcing long-term business.”
For boosting tourism and awareness A 2015 Deloitte report also noted the possible benefits.
“The usage of Dubai as a place for hot weather training in the wintertime is proving increasingly popular for football teams,” the report says. “If marketed correctly Dubai could in time become the’go-to’ venue for a significant number of clubs, with consequent opportunities for coaching (and) exhibition matches.”
“Volume involvement events also have significant potential in bringing extra sports tourists”

Chadwick believes there are for seeing sportspeople past their physical fitness benefits center.
“By training in the Gulf athletes and teams may boost their profiles across the area, construct buff engagement, and establish potentially profitable relationships with commercial partners,” he states.
The existence of considerations in trips to Dubai was emphasized by people manager of German football team Hamburg SV, such as Bernd Wehmeyer, who stated the club’s property by Emirates Airline was a factor in the choice of destination.
Wider ambitions
Connections with international sports stars’ evolution is currently taking place alongside a drive to develop sporting involvement and infrastructure .
The Arena which will host football, basketball and hockey was recently opened by the Emirate. Dubai also updated facilities such as the Al Maktoum Stadium for the 2019 Asian Cup, held at the UAE.
“There are many other sports projects under debate,” says Aman Al Rahma, listing plans for new bike paths and golf courses in town.

The DSC is also aiming to improve involvement across all demographics, says Aman Al Rahma,” with the purpose of making Dubai”among the very physically active areas on the planet.”
“That is the reason why, if you take a look at Dubai’s annual sports calendar, you will come across a number of neighborhood sports events alongside the star-studded elite athletic extravaganzas,” he says.
Having secured an influx of worldwide talent, Dubai can also be trying to nurture its own.
