Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool: Roy Keane, Graeme Souness and Jose Mourinho reaction
Graeme Souness predicted Liverpool’s win over Chelsea”ugly” while Jose Mourinho endorsed his previous club’s doctrine beneath Frank Lampard.
Both sides of a disallowed Cesar Azpilicueta equaliser, Roberto Firmino header and trent Alexander-Arnold’s thunderbolt, watched the league leaders open a two-goal lead inside half an hour in Stamford Bridge.
The dazzling solo attempt of chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante put up a final 19 minutes however, the Reds held on for a 2-1 success that has been their 15th Premier League win in a row and places these five points clear of Manchester City.
Here’s how Liverpool’s victory was reacted to by our Super Sunday pundits and whether their benefit over City has any significance.
“They gained awful now and got away with it. They were distinct groups in both halves. From the first half, they have been fabulous – threatening. However, they hung on. The midfield couldn’t keep hold of the ball and they had been under stress.
“For the goal, Fabinho appeared like he was towing a caravan. The only excuse you may give up is that they had a game in midweek. Chelsea will think that they should have got something from the match ”
“When you win titles, you need to hang there. You won’t even reevaluate it when you return to the bus after these types of games. You move on the next game. They would have obtained it if you told them ahead of the game you would win 2-1 although there are times to be self-critical. If they win the league they won’t return in this result thinking’we might have done better ‘ – they’ll just be happy to have the medal in their hands, although it is only September.”
“It’s a significant result. Liverpool and manchester City will be looking at the fixtures of each other if they go away to six teams as it has an opportunity. The two teams, if they get there or not, have to target 100 points. You can only drop 14 points. A draw is not a good outcome. To Arsenal, you would go off in the past and you would be pleased with a point. City have changed – drawing away from home is not a good outcome.”
And just what about the functionality of Chelsea? Their manager was at the studio and even though he hopes the fans don’t begin accepting shedding, he’s on board with Lampard and club’s doctrine.
“I hope they do not get accustomed to it [losing] – that’s the key thing. When you begin accepting beats your players gave it their best to be proud along with because your team play.
“I think when you get used to it, large clubs stop being large clubs. They need ton’t get used to it. It shows individuals are ready for the year and prepared to accept the season will be under a supervisor who is among the best professionals I worked with and a possibly top supervisor.
“The reality of the figures state Liverpool have been 10 points ahead of Chelsea – they aren’t likely to struggle for the title. Let’s support the doctrine of providing time for the supervisor and those players to work.
“I love their own thoughts. I think their type of play is being adapted to what football is like nowadays and adapted to the profile of those players they have. In this instant they are far away from being able to compete for titles”
