Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool: Roy Keane, Graeme Souness and Jose Mourinho reaction
Graeme Souness known as Liverpool’s win over Chelsea”awful” while Jose Mourinho endorsed his old club’s philosophy under Frank Lampard.
Both sides of a disallowed Cesar Azpilicueta equaliser, Roberto Firmino’s free header and trent Alexander-Arnold’s thunderbolt, watched the Celtics leaders open a two-goal lead within 30 minutes in Stamford Bridge.
The Reds held on for a success which has been their Premier League win in a row and puts these five points clear of Manchester City although chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante solo effort put up a tense final 19 minutes.
Here is the way our Super Sunday pundits responded to the success of Liverpool and whether their historical advantage over City has any significance.
“They won awful now and got off with it. They were groups in the halves. In the first half, they have been fabulous – very threatening. However, they were hanging on. The midfield could not keep hold of the ball and they had been under pressure.
“For the purpose, Fabinho appeared like he was towing a caravan. Is that they had a game . Chelsea will rightly think that they must have got something from this match ”
“If you win titles, you have to hang in there. You won’t actually reevaluate it when you return to the bus following these kinds of games. You move onto another match. They’d have accepted it if you told them until the game you would win 2-1 although there are instances to be self-critical. If they win the jackpot they will not look back in this result believing’we might have done better there’ – they’ll just be delighted to have the medal in their palms, though it is only September.”
“it is a huge outcome. Liverpool and manchester City will be looking at the fixtures of each other if they go away to six teams since it’s an opportunity to drop points. The two teams, if they get there or nothave to target 100 points. You can only shed 14 points. A draw is not a outcome that is good. To Arsenal, Manchester United, you would go off in the past and you’d be pleased with a point. City have changed that – drawing away from home isn’t a fantastic result.”
And just what about Chelsea’s performance? Their manager was at the studio and although he hopes that the fans do not begin accepting shedding, he is on board with Lampard and club doctrine.
“I hope that they don’t get accustomed to it [losing] – that is the key thing. When you start accepting defeats because your team play nicely along with your players gave it their best for the visitors to be pleased, with regard to commitment and their application.
“I think when you become accustomed to it, big clubs cease being large clubs. They need ton’t get used to it. It shows individuals are prepared to accept what the year is going to be under a manager who’s one of the best professionals I worked with and also a top manager and ready for the season.
“The truth is these numbers state Liverpool have been 10 points before Chelsea – that they are not likely to struggle for the title. Let’s encourage the philosophy of giving time for the manager and the players to work.
“I like their thoughts. I think their type of play adapted into the profile of the players they have and has been accommodated to what soccer is like nowadays. Within this momentthey are far from having the ability to compete for names .”
