Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool: Roy Keane, Graeme Souness and Jose Mourinho reaction
Graeme Souness predicted Liverpool’s win over Chelsea”ugly” while Jose Mourinho endorsed his old club philosophy beneath Frank Lampard.
Both sides of a disallowed Cesar Azpilicueta equaliser, Roberto Firmino’s free header and trent Alexander-Arnold’s thunderbolt, watched the group leaders open a two-goal lead within half an hour at Stamford Bridge.
The brilliant solo attempt of chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante put up a final 19 minutes but the Reds held on for a success which was their 15th Premier League win in a row and sets these five points clear of Manchester City.
Here is if their advantage over City has any significance and how our Super Sunday pundits responded to Liverpool’s success.
“They won ugly today and got off with it. They were different teams in the halves. From the first half, they have been fabulous – threatening. But they were hanging on. The midfield could not keep hold of the ball and they were under stress.
“For the purpose, Fabinho looked like he was towing a caravan. Is that they had a difficult game . Chelsea will think they must have got something from the match ”
“When you win titles, you have to hang there. You won’t even reevaluate it when you return on the bus following these types of matches. You move on another match. They would have obtained it if you told them before the game you would win 2-1 although there are instances to be self-critical. If they win the jackpot they will not look back in this result believing’we might have done better there’ – they’ll just be pleased to have the medal in their control, even though it is only September.”
“it is a major result. Liverpool and manchester City will be considering the fixtures of each other since it’s an opportunity to fall points if they move away to big six teams. The two groups, if they arrive there or not, have to aim for 100 points. 14 points can only shed. A draw isn’t a good result. To Arsenal, you’d go off in the past and you would be pleased with a point. City have changed that – pulling away from home is not a fantastic outcome.”
And just what about Chelsea’s functionality? Their former supervisor was at the studio and he is on board with Lampard and club doctrine, even though he hopes that the fans don’t start accepting shedding.
“I hope they don’t get accustomed to it [losing] – that is the important thing. When you begin accepting beats your players gave it their best for your people to be pleased, regarding their commitment and application and just because your team play well.
“I believe when you become accustomed to it, large clubs cease being large clubs. They shouldn’t get used to it. It shows people are prepared for the season and ready to accept the year will be under a manager who’s one with and a manager.
“The reality of the figures state Liverpool have been 10 points ahead of Chelsea – that they are not going to fight for the name. Let’s support the philosophy of giving time for the manager and the players to work.
“I like their ideas. I think that their kind of play accommodated to the profile of those players they currently have and has been accommodated to what soccer is like nowadays. Within this instant , they are far away from having the ability to compete for titles”
